Salesforce's UK chief urges government not to regulate all AI companies in the same way

The chief executive of a major technology company has advocated for government regulation of artificial intelligence, emphasizing the importance of not generalizing across all tech companies developing AI. The CEO indicated that while the enterprise embraces legislation, such regulations in the UK should be proportionally and specifically crafted.

The executive highlighted differences between firms producing consumer-focused AI, like those integrating tools that are widely accessible, compared to those developing enterprise-level AI systems. These latter systems are bound by stringent privacy and corporate standards.

A governmental spokesperson mentioned that forthcoming AI regulations aim to target only a select few companies creating the most potent AI models. This approach implies that organizations, which do not develop foundational AI models themselves, may not be subject to these rules. The spokesperson underscored a commitment to harnessing AI to boost economic growth and productivity.
